RentSmart is designed to develop a network of certified community educators to foster healthy and sustainable rental relationships. It aims to provide housing professionals with the skills and tools to empower tenants, contribute to stable tenancies, and build strong communities across Canada.

This short eLearning course prepares educators to deliver a condensed 3-hour RentSmart session. It gives you a clear overview of the materials and helps you confidently guide learners through key renting topics such as budgeting for housing costs, understanding the basics of renting, being a good neighbour, and caring for a home. 

By the end, you will be ready to use the course materials to lead a practical and engaging learning experience.

RentSmart basics is an on-demand online course, available for you to access on your own schedule.

Foundations: Tenant and community engagement

This three-course learning pathway provides a practical introduction to tenant and community engagement in community housing. Learners will explore the principles of inclusive engagement, understand why participation matters, and gain tools for building meaningful relationships with tenants and communities. The pathway highlights approaches for encouraging participation, responding to tenant feedback, and integrating engagement practices into everyday housing operations to support stronger, more responsive housing services.

Advanced: Tenant and community engagement

Deepen your tenant and community engagement practice and strengthen your ability to lead inclusive participation processes. Through two focused courses, learners will explore advanced engagement strategies, approaches to building tenant leadership, and methods for integrating community input into housing decisions and services.
